Bima Sports understands that Manchester United have removed Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe from their Europa league squad and added Teden Mengi and Ethan Laird
Laird, 18, made his Manchester United debut in the 2-1 defeat to Astana and emerged in the 4-0 thrashing of AZ Alkmaar in the group stage of the competition. Under-18 captain Mengi, also 18, was an unused substitute in Astana Match.
Shaw and Tuanzebe are sidelined for the rest of the season due to injury and United cannot register Chris Smalling, Dean Henderson or Marcos Rojo after their loan spells ended.
Chris Smalling has returned to United after Roma failed to agree a new deal for him to be included in Roma Europa League squad for the knockout stage.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed last month he had no intention of reintegrating Rojo into the first-team squad and United can release the 30-year-old next year.
“Marcos has been in lockdown over there so they’ve not played,” Solskjaer said. “At the moment I can’t see him coming back here over the summer because we’ve been in this bubble and have this squad available until next summer”
“So he just needs to focus on getting and staying fit and being ready for wherever that takes him.”
Dean Henderson is on holiday after having an impressive Loan spell at the blades
Phil Jones has been retained even though he has missed all 11 matches since the season restarted due to an injury.
Solskjaer gave the United players five days off last week ahead of the round-of-16 second leg at home to LASK Linz on Wednesday.
United are 5-0 up on aggregate from the first leg and expected to heavily rotate at Old Trafford. We expect to see a changed team for the match against LASK as the senior players rest for the Quarter Finals
There are five days between the LASK tie and the quarter-final with Copenhagen or Istanbul Basaksehir in Cologne and the semi-final is scheduled for six days later on August 16.
United could face Wolves, Olympiakos, Sevilla, or Roma in the semi-final and the Europa League final will be staged on August 21.
