Technology is one of the great things that have changed the modern world, though it might have affected people in a negative way, it has many positive results :Advanced economy, treatment, easen work e. t.c
Children being part of the society are also affected in one way or another by technology . A hundred percent of children during this century know how to operate Computers,Phones and Tablets.
it is a good thing when they are able to do that, but what saddens me is when they become more addicted to them. Caregivers in one way or another are to blame, imagine a scenario where a child will throw tantrums and when she is given a phone or Tablet she stops the tantrums.
It is a rearing practice that can have negative implication on the child, when will that child go outside and play some football or even a different game that will help him grow wholistically?
In Psychology class, there is a philosopher B. F Skinner who talks about learning in children, he used a rat in a box to see if it will learn. The box had a lever which had a tray of food. Inside the box, the rat ran many times and by mistake hit the lever and food dropped down and it ate.
After a few errors, the rat learnt to lever for food. Same case to children, if you as a parent give your child a phone to play games every time they want or show tantrums you are likely to encourage that behavior.
And the child will learn just like the rat, to lever for the phone.Be careful not to make our children addicted to this things.
If possible use The Operant Conditioning of Skinner to train children acquire and learn other games or activities that will be beneficial to their growth.
Negative reinforcement such as frowning at the child, ignoring the child can be used to reduce negative behavior in children.
However be careful, because some children might throw tantrums just to seek for your attention as a Caregiver . Know your child and let’s continue raising them well.
