Blood chemistry is very important in determining the health status of an individual.

Fasting Blood Sugar helps Determines the likelihood of diabetes.

Cholesterol and Triglycerides:

  • These are lipids (fats) found in the blood
  • Elevated levels is indicative of hyperlipidemia

The higher the concentration of these substances, especially cholesterol, the more likely is the development of coronary sclerosis (Thickening of the artery walls).

Coronary artery heart disease (Narrowing of arteries disturbing blood supply) Caused by high lipids

Coronary Artery Disease

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one type of heart disease that occurs when the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart muscle (coronary arteries) are narrowed or blocked.
  • This narrowing or blockage is most often caused by the buildup of fat (cholesterol) and calcium inside the walls of the arteries leading to the heart. This process is called atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries.
  • The buildup of fat and calcium inside the arteries is called a plaque.

Serum Creatinine and Urea:

  • Creatinine and Urea in the blood is indicative of kidney disease.
  • Diseased kidney is unable to filter out sufficient quantities of these substances.

SGOT, SGPT, GGT and Alkaline Phosphates):

  • These are liver function tests
  • In liver diseases, these substances are released by the liver into the blood stream where their concentration increases
