How to interpret blood chemistry studies

  • SGOT, SGPT and GGT – This is normally interpreted together and may give indication of Liver problems or excessive alcohol intake.
  • Alkaline Phosphate presence shows presence of Cancer
  • High Total & Direct Bilirubin found in urine indicates Kidney related issue
  • High levels of Creatinine indicate that the kidney is not working properly
  • High levels of Cholesterol can give rise to cardiovascular disease & diabetes
  • HDL Cholesterol indicates that the applicant health is Good
  • LDL Cholesterol is an indicator of Bad health. Risk factor for stroke and heart attack.
  • Higher readings of Random or Fasting Blood Sugar indicate presence of Diabetes
  • Uric Acid indicates existence of Gout, Arthritis (If in young adults, likely to develop diabetes in future
  • Calcium, Sodium, Potassium & Chloride – Insignificant
