The Italian giants sacked Mauricio Sari and appointed club legend Andrea Pirlo as their new manager last week
Winning Serie A title in his debut season was not enough for Sarri to keep his job as he was sacked shortly after Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League by French club olimpique on Friday night, with Pirlo swiftly promoted from his recent appointment as U23s manager to replace him.
Pirlo will look to oversee a change of approach during his time in charge of Juventus and his former teammate Luca Toni believes Paul Pogba would be the ‘ideal gift’ to mark the start of his tenure.
Paul Pogba played alongside Andrea Pirlo at the heart of the Juventus midfield for three seasons before he sealed his then world-record return back to his academy club Manchester united in the summer of 2016.
Luca Toni admits it would be tough to lure Pogba away from United this summer but insists the former Juventus midfielder would be the ‘best option’ available.
“Knowing Andrea, he will start building from midfield, The ideal gift would be Pogba. I don’t know if that’s possible, but it would certainly be the best option. Andrea will not be a coach who focuses on defending and counter-attacking. He loves to dominate the ball and will want to impose that on his team. I don’t know what system he will use and I don’t think it matters. Andrea is intelligent and flexible.” he told Tuttosport
