Manchester united experienced defender Phil Jones will not be part of the Manchester United squad in the Europa League finals, united manager Solskjaer has confirmed.

Phil Jones has found himself out of favor at Manchester United, and has not featured at all since January this year. He has made just eight appearances all season, with just two coming in the Premier League, and three of those coming in the Europa League group stage.

Manchester United flew out to Germany for the Europa League quarter-final with FC Copenhagen on Sunday morning, while Jones was again missing from the squad that went to Germany, which included young defender Teden Mengi ahead of him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Jones’ absence was down to a long-term injury problem, and that he will remain at United’s Carrington training complex in August to continue an individual programme aimed at getting him back to fitness as soon as possible.

“Phil has been following an individualized training programs during the post-lockdown period to optimize recovery from a knee problem,” Solskjaer told club official media

“It was a good opportunity as we had sufficient cover in defensive positions for the remaining Premier League games and he will continue to work with a fitness coach at the Aon Training Complex while the squad are in Germany.”

It was also confirmed that the club are hopeful that injured duo Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe will be available for the start of the new Premier League season next month, while doubtful pair Diogo Dalot and Victor Lindelof both travelled to Germany after recovering from issues that kept them out of the win over LASK.
