David De Gea: 10/10

He should have been Man of the Match. Having missed the winning penalty last season, everyone expected him to be Low on confidence. He pulled so many world Class Saves. United could have conceded 4, 5 or 6 goals today but De Gea made sure we stayed in the game until the end. Another world-class display by the Spaniard.

Edinson Cavani: 8/10.

His box movements were superb. He added a lot of energy and desire when came off the bench with 15 minutes to play. Ronaldo’s goal happened after Edi dispossessed a Villarreal defender well inside the visitors’ own half. Wasted a glorious chance to score after Greenwood’s fantastic cross though.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 7/10.

Was silent for the large part of the game. But rose to the occasion when he was needed, he was there to bring us a last-minute victory with a fantastic strike.

Alex Telles: 7/10.

He was seriously mauled by Villareal attacking players.  He was poor on the pitch for 60 minutes before unleashing a stunning volley to equalise for United after a Bruno Fernandes cross. It was a fantastic and timely goal, so Telles gets a rather high mark despite being vulnerable defensively.

Bruno Fernandes: 6.

A very inventive free-kick routine from Bruno to set up Telles’ goal.He Made some good runs but we missed his creativity today as he drifted forward too much, not linking up with McTominay properly.

Jadon Sancho: 6/10.

He had a good game. Going by his price tag, Manchester United expect much from him. He showed he is gradually adapting to United’s style of play. Was quite energetic on the left-hand side. However, it is very far from a performance you expect from a £73m player.

Mason Greenwood: 6/10.

He Showed his talent on a couple of occasions but was invisible for the larger part of the game.

Paul Pogba: 5/10.

He Looked off the beat today, misplacing easy passes and not connecting well with Sancho on the left side.

Scott McTominay: 4/10.

Was asked to play defensive midfielder again and it didn’t really work out for Scott as he lacked positional awareness to protect the space against Villarreal’s quick counters. Was left very isolated in possession.

Diego Dalot: 2/10.

He was seriously overrun by Danjuma on many occasions. He Looked nervous. A defensive disaster class from the defender. Made Danjuma look like a world Class star as he fell for every trick and lost every duel to the Villarreal forward. One of the worst performances in the United shirt for the right-back. He seem not ready for the position but he will learn

Raphael Varane 6/10

He look decent considering that he was the leader in defense.

Lindelof 5/10

Quite an average performance but sometimes found himself out of position

Subs:

Matic 7/10

Looked well composed and calm on the ball. He slowed down Villareal tempo protecting the back 4

Fred 6/10

Decent on the ball. Had little to contribute

Lingard 7/10

Jesse registered an assist and had a serious contribution in the winning Goal
