Man Utd face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday and pundits have made their predictions.

Manchester United could move one step closer to winning their first trophy under the stewardship of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday when they compete in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea this evening.

United and Chelsea have been embroiled in a tense battle to finish in the Premier League’s top four and earn qualification to the Champions League, with only a single point separating them.

But now the teams will face off against each other at Wembley for the chance to advance to next month’s final.

United will be confident going into the match as they are in the better form, despite the drop-off in performance level in their last two outings, and have already beaten Chelsea three times this season in the league and Carabao Cup.

“In Sunday’s semi-final, two teams battling out in the Premier League for a Champions League qualification spot go head-to-head.

“As players, these two managers have won this competition six times between them, Frank Lampard having won it four times and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer twice. Both managers know what it takes and how important this competition is.

“Manchester United have won all three meetings against Chelsea this season by an aggregate of eight goals to one and are going in to this match unbeaten in 19 games in all competitions.

“Chelsea narrowly beat Norwich in the Premier League last time out, but Frank Lampard will be hoping for more from his men on Sunday.

“United knocked Chelsea out of this competition in the fifth-round last season and I think they are going to do it all over again at the semi-final stage this time around.

“I am going for a 3-1 victory to Manchester United, thereby setting up a mouth-watering showdown between the two Manchester clubs in the FA Cup Final.”

Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea

Mark Lawrenson, BBC

“I’m backing United and Chelsea to edge out Leicester and both finish in the top four in the league. But United have the edge when these two go head to head, and I think they will beat the Blues for the fourth time this season on Sunday.

“United’s improvement is not just down to the fact their front three are playing well, but it definitely helps that they are finishing off so much of the good work done by the rest of their team.

“Chelsea are dangerous when they come forward too, of course. I just think United carry more of a threat, and they are more solid at the other end too.

“There have been a few all-London FA Cup finals before but if I am right with my predictions, and City and United both win and play each other on 1 August, then it would be a huge shame that their fans will not be able to come along for the first all-Manchester final.

“The first all-Merseyside FA Cup final was an incredible occasion to be a part of as a player in 1986, with Liverpool and Everton fans taking over the capital without any trouble at all.

“City and United fans would have done the same, but this is just the way football is at the moment whoever you support.”

Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Chelsea
