Manchester United had earlier announced that they had agreed a deal in principle with Real Madrid for the transfer of Raphael Varane.
The deal was to be subjected to a medical and to personal terms being agreed.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano had earlier released More details on Raphaël Varane contract with Manchester United.
The deal will be on a four-years basis with option to extend until June 2026.
Fabrizio Romano indicated that Personal terms had been agreed since days and paperworks was being prepared.
Fabrizio tweeted that his Medical and contract details signing also scheduled this week, then Varane will be unveiled as new signing.
The program indicates that Varane will join training on Friday in preparation for Manchester united League opener on weekend. It remains to be seen whether Varane will be involved in the fixture.
